Molly M. McLay, LCSW
I'm here to help!
Many new social workers choose to pursue an LCSW, the highest level of clinical licensure that demonstrates a social worker has completed 3000 hours of clinical work under the guidance of an experienced LCSW. This creates flexiblity for the social worker and provides assurance to those working with that individual.
Social workers opt to hire an independent LCSW supervisor for two primary reasons (sometimes both at the same time):
Their place of employment does not have an onsite LCSW to provide this clinical supervision.
The individual would like to gain the perspective of a supervisor outside of their workplace setting for a variety of reasons.
Since summer 2021, I have been continuously providing LCSW supervision, to as few as one supervisee to as many as four. I am currently licensed and approved to provide LCSW supervision to master's level social workers in the state of Illinois. I have grown to love doing this work and appreciate the opportunity to supervise and mentor new social workers.
My supervision style is very similar to the style I use in my therapy services. My focus is letting the supervisee lead in terms of what they are needing. I provide a lot of case consultation, as well as big picture discussions around ethics, professional development, organizational dynamics, self-preservation / self-care, and social work values. I unconditionally support my supervisees toward bringing their authentic selves to this work and toward developing self-advocacy skills when needed. I believe that we all had reasons for choosing this work, and that we should continue to be ourselves in this work even when dysfunction and cynicism may surround us at times. Supervisees sometimes consider my perspective and/or feedback to be a bit of a litmus test around ethical social work practice, whether they are developing their own skills in this area or questioning ethics elsewhere in the field. I am always willing to discuss ethics in social work, as well as any other social work value or area of clinical need.
Through my supervision services, I can provide documentation review services and will sign clinical notes when requested and authorized by a supervisee's place of employment, though this is not a service all supervisees request.
My supervision services are self-pay at a rate below the average of what is typically offered in the community. Rates of service as well as payment methods can be discussed upon request.
LCSW supervision is available on request via Telehealth for master's-level social workers in the state of Illinois.
