Molly M. McLay, LCSW
I'm a therapist, educator, advocate, partner, mom, writer, and singer. I love watching witty half-hour comedies, dramas that make you think, the occasional rom-com, Disney, Marvel, and Doctor Who. I love singing karaoke, writing poems, listening to most genres of music but especially jazz, and talking about social justice and feminism with anyone who will both listen and share. I adore most Broadway musicals and will talk about them (if you want). To relax, I sometimes do yoga, meditate, take a bath, or do a face mask; but I'm more likely to watch dog-and-baby or cooking videos, drink a warm beverage, or snuggle my pets in a giant floofy blanket.
I have the career that I have because I think people are fascinating and amazing. I love to learn, and I love to learn about people especially, and I bring that curiosity to my work as well. If you work with me, I will strive to help you feel that for the hour you are talking to me, there is nothing on earth that is more important to me than getting to know you, sitting with you in wherever you are on that particular day, and supporting you in whatever way you need. I will be your champion and I will tell you what I really think, and if I'm ever not doing that well, I will wholeheartedly hear that and do what I can to do it better.
I've been working as a licensed social worker since 2011 and a licensed clinical social worker since 2015, predominantly centered in the Champaign-Urbana, IL area. I graduated with my master of social work from the School of Social Work at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2011, and I've spent some time working (virtually) on my PhD in social work from the Brown School at Washington University in St. Louis. I also serve as president of the Champaign County Mental Health Board.
From 2017 to the start of this practice opening, I've worked as a therapist at Elliott Counseling Group, doing mostly telehealth work with adolescents, adults, and occasionally couples, primarily around gender-based trauma and healing, LGBTQIA identity work, anxiety disorders, and ADHD and other forms of neurodivergence. From 2013-2019, I served as Assistant Director of the University of Illinois Women’s Resources Center, where I co-created three new peer-led gender-based violence prevention programs, revamped the first-year program reaching 9000+ students annually to become more inclusive to LGBTQIA+ students, taught courses, and served as a Title IX confidential advisor. I previously worked as a pregnancy and parenting educator and case manager, a medical advocate for sexual assault survivors, a trauma therapy intern, and a sexual health educator. In this practice, I plan to work with all of the above areas, as well as assisting individuals with chronic illness, infertility, and medical system navigation challenges.
Services are available via Telehealth in the state of Illinois.
